Lets bring your product to life

Getting a product from idea to production takes more than good design. It takes someone who understands how things are actually built, what constraints look like at each stage, and how to make decisions that hold up when the pressure is on.

Barnaby Ward is an Industrial Design Consultant based in Auckland, New Zealand. Over the past decade he has worked across consumer electronics, hardware, furniture, and exhibition design, guiding projects from early concept through to production-ready specification. He has worked with independent artists, cultural institutions, creative studios, and large international brands, bringing the same rigour to each.

His work sits at the intersection of design for manufacture and digital visualisation. That means every concept is grounded in how it will be built, and communicated clearly through 3D modelling, renderings, and animation that suppliers and stakeholders can actually use.

Barnaby works independently from his studio in Kingsland, Auckland. No account managers, no layers. Just one experienced designer, fully accountable, from the first conversation to the final file.

FAQ

Who are you?
I'm an Industrial designer with well over a decade of experience primarily working in the consumer electronics industry: (technology hardware products). Alongside this, I have worked in furniture, lighting, and exhibition design. I also often help clients with animation and product visualisation work. Throughout my career, I have worked for a range of international brands and gained a wealth of experience leading design teams to build successful products. I am now operating as an independent Industrial designer.
Where do you work?
I work out of a dedicated design studio in Kingsland, Auckland, a creative space where ideas are brought to life through hands-on prototyping and product development. While I enjoy collaborating with clients across New Zealand and Australia, I’ve also successfully worked with businesses and brands around the world. I’m always open to travelling for projects when needed and welcome international collaborations.
Are you taking on new clients?
I'm currently taking on clients for 2026. Feel free to book a call if you'd like to discuss a project.
How do you price your projects?
Every project is different and can depend highly on the complexity of the product and how much involvement you require from a designer. There is no project too big or too small and can price projects based on hourly rates, daily rates, or as a fixed fee. For a more accurate quote feel free to book a call to discuss.
What software do you use?
Having worked across multiple brands and internally with different companies I've pretty much used every bit of CAD software there is out there especially parametric modelers including Siemens NX and PTC Creo. Currently, I am working with Fusion 360, Solidworks and Rhinoceros 3D in either native format or STEP files. Product visualisation stills and animations are done in either KeyShot or Blender. All other visual design work is done with Adobe CC and I utilize Miro and Notion as a collaborative design research and task-tracking platform.
Do you do engineering work?
Though I am not an Engineer, my background in manufacturing products across multiple markets has allowed me to design in a way that aligns well with engineering principles. I'm adept at collaborating with in-house engineering teams and external consultants. If necessary, I have a network of engineers I can refer.
Are you hiring?
Not currently! But feel free to send your cv through to hello@barnabyward.com
